Cash is still king in the Philippines

  • Credit cards are not widely accepted outside of the large cities
  • ATMs are available in most towns and 7-Eleven outlets
  • Ferries will only accept cash (unless you book Fastcat via XPLR PH) as do most provincial gas stations, eateries and small hotels/homestays etc
  • All port fees (local government, port authority etc) must be paid in cash
  • Ensure you have enough cash to cover your daily expenses, but not too much
